Dele Momodu Carpets Fayose over Comments on Atiku Abubakar

Published

By Eric Elezuo

Celebrated journalist, Chief Dele Momodu, has replied a former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, who called on former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to desist from contesting the presidential elections again in Nigeria as a result of his age.

In a statement he signed himself, and made available to The Boss, Momodu, a member of the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation in 2023, queried the rationale behind the call, seeking to know who Fayose referred to a ‘younger generation’.

He narrowed down Fayose’s insincerity in the call when he will be supporting a Tinubu reelection in the coming days.

He advised the former to desist from from anyone not to contest election, but feel free to exercise his franchise of voting or supporting whomever he wishes.

He further wondered why the likes of Fayose have failed to support the Dukes, Obis, Sowores, Osinbajos, Sarakis and Fayemis of this world to support their quest for a you ger leader.

“WHO’S AFRAID OF ATIKU ABUBAKAR?

I have read a statement credited to former GOVERNOR PETER AYODELE FAYOSE advising ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR to stay away from ever contesting Presidential election again in Nigeria. This has raised a few salient questions.
Who are the younger persons he has in mind for 2027? MINISTER NYESOM WIKE or PRESIDENT TINUBU of APC that they are supporting openly while still in PDP?
It is undemocratic to tell anyone not to contest an election. If ATIKU contests and you don’t like him, you have the right to oppose him but you can’t stylishly disqualify him. AGE alone can’t invalidate a leader’s vision and mission in life or in politics. Who would have expected a PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN to come on the global stage after POTUS BARACK OBAMA? Or that a former POTUS DONALD TRUMP will be contesting against a much younger and smart woman VP KAMALA HARRIS today?
Let’s go further. What has been the effect of the participation of many of the younger folks in Nigerian politics of former GOVERNOR FAYOSE’s generation? (Absolute CALAMITY and CHAOS and unprecedented CORRUPTION). How many members of that generation have done meaningful and visible BUSINESS since leaving power other than continuing to live parasitically on the nation?
It must be noted that ATIKU ABUBAKAR has carried himself admirably as a true Democrat. He does not have a tyrannical grip on any STATE in Nigeria. He has never sponsored thugs or INEC to hijack elections. If GOD has blessed him with good health, what stops him from contesting? Why did the proponents of younger candidates not support VP YEMI OSINBAJO, ABUBAKAR BUKOLA SARAKI, CHIBUIKE ROTIMI AMAECHI, OMOYELE SOWORE, AMINU WAZIRI TAMBUWAL, DONALD DUKE, KAYODE FAYEMI, NASIR EL RUFAI, PETER OBI, RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO, and others but they worked actively to install PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU!!
Is FAYOSE assuring us that members of their group will soon come out boldly and openly to advise TINUBU not to contest in 2027?” – DELE MOMODU speaks

Appeal Court Affirms Ruling Barring VIO from Impounding Vehicles, Fining Motorists

Published

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday upheld the judgment that stopped the Directorate of Road Traffic Services and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) from seizing vehicles or imposing fines on motorists.

In a unanimous decision by a three-member panel, the appellate court found no basis to set aside the Federal High Court’s ruling of October 16, 2024, which restrained the VIO from harassing motorists.

The appeal filed by the VIO was dismissed for lacking merit. Justice Oyejoju Oyewumi delivered in the lead judgment.

The high court had earlier ruled, in a judgment by Justice Nkeonye Maha, that no law authorizes the VIO to stop motorists, impound vehicles, or impose penalties for alleged traffic offences.

The case arose from a fundamental rights suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/1695/2023) filed by lawyer Abubakar Marshal.

Marshal informed the court that VIO officials stopped him at Jabi in Abuja on December 12, 2023, and seized his vehicle without lawful reason. He asked the court to determine whether their actions violated his rights.

Justice Maha agreed and ordered the VIO and its agents not to impound vehicles or impose fines on motorists, describing the actions as unlawful. She held that only a court can impose fines or sanctions.

She ruled that the VIO’s conduct breached the applicant’s constitutional right to property under Section 42 of the 1999 Constitution and Article 14 of the African Charter. She further held that the VIO has no legal authority to seize vehicles or penalize motorists, as doing so infringes on rights to fair hearing, movement and presumption of innocence.

Although Marshal, represented by Femi Falana, SAN, requested ₦500 million in damages and a public apology, the court awarded ₦2.5 million.

The Directorate of Road Traffic Services, its Director, its Abuja Area Commander at the time (identified as Mr. Leo), team leader Solomon Onoja, and the FCT Minister were listed as respondents.

They appealed the decision, but the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal.
