Investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, has said he wished President Bola Tinubu’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had died in the ill-fated aircraft that crash-landed in Ibadan on Friday night.
Adelabu, among other dignitaries were on board the private HS25B aircraft under Flint Aero’s operation, which narrowly escaped disaster as it crash-landed near the runway.
The flight had departed Abuja at 18:41 hours with several high-ranking government officials, but crash-landed at approximately 19:21 hours. No casualties were recorded the 10 passengers on board though the aircraft suffered substantial damage.
But in his narrative, Hundeyin, who is known for his thorough investigative efforts, through his X account, accused the airline operators of operating an illegal flight with the connivance of top officials of Nigeran Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). He said that the aircraft was licensed for private flights, but the operators turned around to use it for commercial purposes with full knowledge of NCAA.
“The Hawker 800XP aircraft with the tail identifier 5N-AMM and serial number 258286 that crash landed in Ibadan with the Minister of Power onboard is operating illegally in Nigeria with the full knowledge and participation of the NCAA.
“This aircraft has no permission to operate commercial charter flights as it is registered under a Permit for Non-Commercial Flights (PNCF). This is the permit given to private non-commercial aircraft, and it is cheaper and easier to obtain than a commercial Air Operator Certificate (AOC), because the NCAA rules for private aircraft operation are less stringent than those for commercial aircraft,” he said.
He also revealed that the flight operators, Flints Aero Service, also is in the business of “operating multiple aircraft under PNCF permission and using them to carry out commercial charter flights. Some of these aircraft include the Hawker 800XP with the tail identifier 5N-ALG and another Hawker 800XP with the tail identifier 5N-AMK.”
He lamented that the sharp practices being perpetrated by Flints and NCAA could have caused the Power Minister his life, wishing that would have been the case so that the corruption in the sector will somehow be investigated thoroughly and stopped.
“Honestly, I kind of wish he had died. Maybe only the death of one of their number will force the so-called Nigerian elite to think long and hard about whether running a country in such a disastrously primitive and selfish manner for the sole and exclusive purpose of exploiting everyone and everything for pitiful amounts of profit will work out for everyone *INCLUDING THEMSELVES* in the long run,” he concluded.
