Saraki, Alaibe Visit Greg Uanseru to Offer Condolences

Former Senate President and Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and former Managing Director/ CEO, Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC), Mr. ‘ ‘Timi Alaibe today, Tuesday, February 18, 2025, paid condolence visits to Oil magnate, Greg Uanseru over the passing of his wife, Ema.

Dr. Saraki, who was accompanied by Mr. Osaro Onaiwu and some aides, on his part, said he was saddened by the news of the death of Mrs. Aniema Uanseru and noted that because of the inevitability of death as decreed by God, Mr. Uanseru would have to accept it in good faith as he bears the loss.

Dr. Saraki urged him to find the strength and courage required to carry on because the children and other members of the family were looking up to him for strength and encouragement.

According to Dr Saraki ” We are here to express our heartfelt condolences to you and your family on the passing of your wife.

” Words cannot express how you are feeling now because losing a loved one can be so painful, but please be strong.May God grant you the fortitude to bear this loss, do count on my support and prayers”

In his own remarks, Mr. Alaibe said the late Mrs. Ema Uanseru was very dear to his heart.

He said her passing is a personal loss but he wants his friend, Greg and the children not to mourn like unbelievers because he knows that Ema was resting in heaven.

Mr. Uanseru, who is President/CEO of GCA Energy Limited thanked Senator Saraki, Alaibe and their entourage for the visit and noted that his mourning will last for long because no one can replace his wife, Ema, who was his confidante, home maker and wonderful mother

The visit was rounded off with prayers after which Senator Saraki signed the condolence register.

It would be recalled that Mrs, Uanseru passed on in London, in January 17, 2025 and since her demise, there have been an outpouring of love as well as condolence visits by prominent Nigerians such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Senator Sanusi Daggash, Mr ‘Tunde Fowler, Chief James Ibori, Mr. Valentine Ugbeide, MD/CEO, Gremore Ltd and Mr Gabriel Ogbechie, CEO, Rainoil Limited.

Vexatious and Meddlesome: ADC Condemns Wike’s Tour of FCT Polling Units

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of interfering in the ongoing Area Council elections in Abuja by visiting polling units during voting hours.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described Wike’s movement across polling centres as “direct interference” capable of intimidating voters and election officials.

The party alleged that the minister’s tour of polling units came after what it termed a unilateral curfew imposed on potential voters, arguing that such actions raise questions about neutrality and fairness in the electoral process.

“The African Democratic Congress strongly condemns the movement of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, around various polling units in Abuja under the guise of monitoring,” the statement read.

ADC further argued that Wike is not a registered voter in the Federal Capital Territory and, as a serving cabinet minister with clear partisan affiliations, has no constitutional role in the conduct of the election.

The party also cited reports of voter suppression and intimidation, alleging collaboration between agents of the All Progressives Congress and some security personnel. It urged its agents and supporters to remain calm but vigilant, while documenting and reporting any irregularities.

Beyond the minister’s presence, ADC raised concerns over disruptions to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal, stating that the platform remained inaccessible while collation was ongoing. The party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately restore full functionality of the portal and provide a public explanation for the disruption.

Describing Wike’s presence at polling centres during active voting as “vexatious and meddlesome,” the party warned that such actions risk undermining public confidence in the credibility of the elections.

Earlier, videos circulated by Wike’s media aide, Olayinka Lere, showed the minister visiting polling units in Karu, Karshi and Garki.

Speaking after the tour, Wike maintained that the elections were peaceful, security personnel had performed effectively and voter turnout was impressive in satellite towns, though relatively low in parts of the city centre.

DSS Arrests El-Rufai After Release from EFCC Custody

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, shortly after being released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) according to Premium Times.

El-Rufai, who was granted bail at around 8 p.m., was immediately picked up by DSS operatives who reportedly lay in wait at the EFCC headquarters.

His arrest is reportedly linked to allegations that he unlawfully intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.

The former governor, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had earlier honoured the EFCC’s invitation on Monday over alleged corruption linked to his administration.

He arrived at the EFCC headquarters accompanied by hundreds of his supporters.

This development comes after El-Rufai narrowly escaped arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, last Thursday.

Following the airport incident, he accused NSA Nuhu Ribadu of orchestrating the attempted arrest in a series of interviews.

Ondo APC Ward Congress Ends in Violence, Two Killed, Many Injured

Fresh violence erupted on Wednesday in Idanre, Ondo State, during the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with at least two persons killed and several others injured.

The incident occurred at Odode-Idanre, headquarters of Idanre Local Government Area, as the ruling party conducted congresses across its 203 wards in the state.

The latest bloodshed was said to be a fallout of Tuesday’s crisis at the APC secretariat in Akure, where hoodlums disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting and assaulted party leaders.

According to a report on THISDAY, one of those attacked in the latest crisis was Raphael Adetimehin, younger brother of the party’s State Caretaker Chairman, Ade Adetimehin who was allegedly assaulted on Tuesday.

It was gathered that Raphael was attacked, his vehicle equally set ablaze by the assailants during the attack at his ward in Idanre, the hometown of the APC chairman, and was rushed to the General Hospital, Idanre, after sustaining machete wounds.

Confirming the incident, Ade Adetimehin said the attackers mistook his brother for him because of their close resemblance.
“They targeted my brother because they thought he was me. They shot him several times but bullets could not penetrate, so, he was cut several times with a cutlass and is now in a coma at the hospital.”

The APC chairman alleged that the attack was politically motivated and carried out by hoodlums sponsored by a former member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Adefisoye, whom he described as an ally of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

“These hoodlums were sponsored. This was a deliberate attack, and it was meant for me. I appeal to the President and the leadership of our party to step in before this situation gets completely out of hand,” he said.

Besides, a family source, however, alleged that Raphael may not have survived the attack, saying, “he was shot during the chaos. We have lost him, and two other people were also killed.”

The source further claimed that two other men were fatally shot in the violence, saying, “I can tell you confidently that another man who drives a Venza and one other person were shot dead today in Idanre,” the source said, adding that the identities of the additional victims were still being ascertained.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed the outbreak of violence, noting that five persons yet to be identified were reportedly attacked, and a vehicle was set ablaze.

“Three victims sustained varying degrees of injury and are currently receiving medical attention while two others were confirmed dead at the hospital. The Commissioner of Police visited the injured victims to assess their condition and assured them of the Command’s support.

“The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal alongside the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oluyemi Ibiloye, personally led a combined team of security operatives to the scene. Their timely intervention ensured the restoration of peace and order in the affected area.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was also learnt that the ward congress was disrupted by violence in Akure North Local Government Area, particularly in Iju, where clashes were said to have marred the process.
