Following media reports of an alleged altercation at the Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat earlier this week, top politician and Zonal Women Leader ( South West) has denied being involved in any form of thuggery.
Noting that in all of her years of politicking, she has always played by the rules and been above board.
A statement signed by Hon. Princess Folashade Oba for her Media Office,  stated “Our attention has been drawn to reports in some quarters of the media about the involvement of the Zonal Women Leader of the All  Progressives Congress ( APC), Chief ( Mrs.) Kemi Nelson in a fracas at the Lagos State Secretariat of the party.
To set the records straight, Chief ( Mrs) Nelson was not a part of the incident at all.
” On the sad day of the incident six (6) weird – looking men stormed the office of the Zonal Women Leader (Sout West) demanding to see her.
“Her staff at the office requested details of their visit including reason for their visit. They there and then refused to give information on their mission  to Chief (Mrs) Kemi Nelson, other than the fact that they came from someone they referred to as the “iron lady” of Lagos Island.
“Apparently sensing that they were not  going to be allowed to see Chief ( Mrs) Nelson because she was at the time in a meeting with both the State  Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief  Sunny Ajose and the State Vice Chairman, West Senatorial District, Chief Funsho Ologunde, the men there and then unleashed terror of unimaginable proportions on the office and everyone in sight.
“They went on rampage and vandalized the office, beat up all  staff members, party members they saw, stole personal belongings that were in sight like phones, office equipment and other valuables.
” The men came prepared to maim and destroy. They were armed with shotguns and other dangerous weapons. This caused party members including Chief ( Mrs.) Nelson to run for their dear lives.
“Chief Mrs Nelson wishes to call on all party members, associates and well wishers who may have been inundated by the reports of the incident to remain calm as the matter is being investigated by the party leadership. We wish to maintain that the matter will be resolved amicably.
“We also want to reiterate that our party,
the All Progressives Congress is a party of peaceful co-existence and development which are in alignment with what Chief Mrs Kemi Nelson has preached in he over 25 years in Nigerian politics.
“The incident of August 27, 2018 is alien to Chief ( Mrs) Kemi Nelson and we are assuring everyone that the party leadership will work assiduously towards a peaceful and amicable settlement”

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the directive withdrawing police orderlies from members of the National Assembly, citing safety concerns.

Akpabio made the appeal during the presentation of the 2026 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly, by President Tinubu, warning that some lawmakers fear they might be unable to return home safely following the withdrawal.

His said: “As we direct the security agencies to withdraw policemen from critical areas, some of the National Assembly said I should let you know they may not be able to go home today.

“On that note, we plead with Mr. President for a review of the decision.”

President Tinubu, on November 23, ordered the withdrawal of police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs), directing that they be redeployed to core policing duties across the country.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu issued the directive after a security meeting with Service Chiefs and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) following heightened security issues in the country.

Under the order, VIPs requiring security are to seek protection from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as the Federal government seeks to boost police presence in communities, particularly in remote areas grappling with insecurity.

Tinubu later reaffirmed the directive on December 10, moments before presiding over the Federal Executive Council, expressing frustration over delays in implementation.

He instructed the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to work with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the Civil Defence Corps to immediately replace withdrawn escorts to avoid exposing individuals to danger.

“I honestly believe in what I said…It should be effected. If you have any problem because of the nature of your assignment, contact the IGP and get my clearance,” Tinubu said.

“The minister of interior should liaise IG and the Civil Defence structure to replace those police officers who are on special security duties.

“So that you don’t leave people exposed,” he said.
