Atletico Madrid Beat Super Eagles 3 – 2

Date:

Fernando Torres scored one of the goals as Atletico Madrid beat the Super Eagles B team 3-2 to win the inaugural Gotv Max Cup on Tuesday at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.

Despite parading some of their best legs, Atletico Madrid started on the back foot after falling behind to a stunning goal from Kelechi Nwakali in the 32nd minute.

The former Flying Eagles captain fired in a stunner from over 20 yards with Atletico first choice and La Liga best shot-stopper Joan Oblak having no answer.

Unfortunately, the celebration for Nigeria did not last long as Angel Correa provided a swift response, scoring equaliser for Atletico barely a minute later.

The reigning Europa League kings raced in front in the second half through their departing legend Fernando Torres who nodded in the ball in the 64th.

Usman Mohammed gave the fans in Uyo reason to cheer as he mesmerised the Atletico defenders before making it 2-2 for Nigeria.

Loose defending by the Eagles saw them concede another goal in the 85th as Borja Garces scored what proved to the winning goal.

Though the Super Eagles B’ team lost on Tuesday many would be impressed with their display.
