President Muhammadu Buhari has tactically debunked the Federal Government’s involvement in the violence comments credited to the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, and assured the foreign observers of their safety during the 2019 elections.
In his nationwide broadcast, President Muhammadu Buhari clearly exonerated the Federal Government of Nigeria from the threat issued by the Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, saying any foreigner who intervenes in the Nigerian electoral process will return home in a body bag.
“I want to assure all Nigerians, the diplomatic community and all foreign election observers of their safety and full protection. Any comments or threats of intimidation from any source do not represent the position of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Buhari said.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government “to the conduct of free and fair elections in a safe and peaceful atmosphere”, adding that “just yesterday, I signed the Peace Accord alongside 72 other presidential candidates”.
Recall that earlier, the president’s media side, Shehu Garba, had defended el-Rufai’s comments as being the position of the Federal Government.
Buhari’s stand has therefore, proved that el-Rufai spoke of his own accord.
