By Eric Elezuo

There was pandemonium Tuesday morning when a team of Customs Officers opened fire at suspected smugglers at the Owode Apa area of Badagry/Seme expressway. However, innocent villagers were shot including a school boy. The shooting erupted a mild clash between the villagers and customs officials resulting in the burning of customs patrol truck.

Eyewitness account reveals that soldiers from 15 Field Engineering Regiment (FER), Badagry Topo Barracks as well as 243 Battalion were immediately moved in to keep the peace.

While no lives were lost in the incidents, the shooter-officer has been reportedly taken into custody by the military police, according to sources.

It will be recalled that the Federal Government recently closed the Seme border, apparently to stem the tide of firearms allegedly entering the country through the land borders.
