As Afrobeat denizens gear up for another week of Felabration, the annual festival which takes place in Lagos will be taking a new turn this year as it is holding in UK to honor the revered King of Afrobeat: Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The Historic Felabration Music Festival conceived in 1998 in memory of the Late Afrobeat King Fela Kuti, a Nigerian Musician and human rights activist known for pioneering the Afrobeat genre of music will take place at Indigo at the O2 hosting some of the biggest names in Afrobeats, Afropop and Afrosoul who will be performing live on the big stage.
With music being an integral aspect of African culture, Felabration is one of the longest standing, most attended and groundbreaking music festivals in Nigeria, staging over 150 of the best African Artists over a one-week extravaganza at the New Afrika Shrine. The UK event will be spearheaded by Fela’s Daughter; Shalewa Kuti with supports from DLA world.
Fela’s music and influence have travelled the global music landscape. Its explosion and rise in the UK is arguably the biggest musical breakthrough in decades, which has also been responsible for the preservation of the African culture through music, fashion and arts in recent years.
