Former aide of ex-presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. Doyin Okupe,has made it known that his son, Ditan, choosing to campaign for President Muhammadu Buhari was an attempt to spite him, because of their differences.
Okupe, who campaigned for the presidential bid of Senate President Bukola Saraki on his Twitter handle @doyinokupe, was reacting to the photographs and tweet of the spokesperson for President Buhari 2019 Presidential Campaign, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who revealed that Mr. Ditan Okupe had volunteered to work for Buhari’s campaign team.
The senior Okupe tweeted, “Ditan Okupe is my son. He is a very brilliant young man. He went to King’s College, Lagos; Buckingham University, UK; and did a postgraduate (degree) in law at the London School of Economics. We both have had serious issues in the last five years. This may be his way of getting back at me. I wish him luck.”
When Twitter users pressed him for more details, he said it was impossible to explain the extent of the dispute between him and his son.
“It is impossible to explain intricate and confounding family issues in a single tweet. Please refrain from making judgement on what you know nothing about.
“What is between Ditan and I will never be discussed publicly, even if it costs me my whole political career. I love him with my whole heart.
“Keyamo is my friend and lawyer. He is still handling a case for me at the Supreme Court.
“He called me tonight on his acquaintance with Ditan, who also has been trying for months to get the contacts of people he considers my political foes, including Tinubu, Kashamu, OGD etc. For him, this is his finest hour.
“Keyamo as my lawyer has not breached any ethics of his profession by using my son against me. This is politics, pure and simple.
“In this game, I am a master. Yoruba says. It is not the day a child abuses an Iroko tree that the tree falls on him. Tomorrow will surely come.
