The Women and Modesty Global Initiative was formally unveiled in a colourful and well-attended ceremony that brought together prominent women leaders, youth mentors, educators, community influencers, faith-based leaders, and development partners. The event centered on the theme, “The Girl Child and Modesty,” highlighting the importance of nurturing positive values among young girls.
The launch served as a vital forum for engaging conversations on character building, self-esteem, dignity, and ethical conduct, particularly in today’s rapidly evolving and highly interconnected society.
Held at the Sobanjo Multimedia Centre of Excellence, University of Lagos, Yaba, the programme was expertly hosted by Dr. Champion and Amb. Cornell Idofia. Proceedings commenced with the singing of the Nigerian National Anthem.

In her keynote address, the Founder of the Women and Modesty Global Initiative, Amb. Mrs. Emelda Ahunna Osuji, underscored the importance of equipping girls with the knowledge, confidence, and mentorship needed to make informed life choices while preserving their values and sense of identity.
She explained that modesty extends beyond outward appearance, describing it as a reflection of integrity, discipline, respect, good character, and responsible self-expression.

“Our vision is to nurture a generation of confident, responsible, and purpose-driven girls who recognize their value and make meaningful contributions to society,” she stated.
The event featured inspiring keynote speeches, mentorship sessions, and goodwill messages from distinguished personalities who shared valuable perspectives on parenting, education, leadership, digital citizenship, and the collective responsibility of society in safeguarding and empowering the girl child.
Among the notable personalities in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Christian Egbeji, Chief Victor Chukwura and Lolo, Mr. and Barrister Steven Ochije, Ajia Memunat Dosu, Chris Ezeoguine (Ogene Na Umuchu), veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, and Nigerian-born Canada-based actress, producer, and director Amanda Ebeye, among several others. Some of the distinguished guests were also honoured with awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society.
Participants drew attention to the numerous challenges confronting young girls today, including peer pressure, cyberbullying, abuse, exploitation, and harmful social influences. They emphasized the need to create supportive and secure environments that enable girls to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.

A major highlight of the occasion was a special award presentation recognizing women who have made remarkable contributions in the areas of education, youth mentorship, moral development, and community service. Their accomplishments were celebrated as examples worthy of emulation by the younger generation.
The programme also showcased cultural displays, motivational performances, and interactive engagements designed to inspire participants to embrace positive values and become advocates of modesty within their communities.

The launch concluded with a renewed pledge by participants to champion character development, dignity, and responsible leadership among young girls. The consensus was clear: a modest, confident, and empowered girl child is not only an asset to her family and community but also a powerful force for societal transformation.

By Ruth Akpan
The prestigious AGIP Recital Hall of the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, became the epicentre of intellectual discourse, inspiration, and distinguished fellowship as eminent personalities from across Nigeria’s academic, business, media, and religious communities gathered for the grand presentation and launch of two remarkable books authored by renowned scholar, entrepreneur, and transformational thinker, Dr. Ayokunnu Olowoporoku.
The atmosphere was one of excitement, admiration, and anticipation as guests arrived in elegant fashion to witness the unveiling of Lifewire: Philosophies for Daily Living and See it, Say it, Do it: A Three-Step Guide to Achieving Success—two profound literary works designed to inspire personal excellence, purposeful living, and transformational leadership.

From the moment proceedings commenced, it was evident that this was far more than a book launch. It was an extraordinary gathering of thought leaders, nation builders, accomplished professionals, and influential voices united by a shared commitment to human development and societal progress.
Leading the distinguished assembly was the Chairman of the Occasion, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, whose insightful address set the tone for the day. With intellectual depth, Professor Asikhia provided a comprehensive overview of the books, describing them as timely contributions to contemporary discourse on personal growth, leadership, and success.
He noted that the books offer practical principles for moral conduct, intentional living, and sustainable achievement, emphasizing that success is neither accidental nor reserved for a privileged few but is attainable through discipline, character, competence, and deliberate action.

Professor Asikhia passionately urged young Nigerians to abandon the destructive culture of instant gratification and embrace the values of self-development, creativity, innovation, and continuous learning. According to him, the future of Nigeria rests not merely on physical infrastructure but on the quality of minds nurtured and developed.
Adding further gravitas to the occasion was the presence of the Special Guest of Honour, the respected cleric and public intellectual, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church.
Delivering a powerful and thought-provoking address, Pastor Bakare highlighted the urgent need for Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, to embrace self-leadership, lifelong learning, and purposeful execution of ideas. He observed that despite the abundance of talent and brilliance within Nigeria, the nation has yet to fully harness its human capital for national transformation.
Drawing lessons from the themes explored in the books, Pastor Bakare emphasized that knowledge without execution remains incomplete. He described the books as compelling instruments capable of awakening minds, stirring hearts, and motivating individuals to move from aspiration to accomplishment.
According to him, the future greatness of Nigeria depends on citizens who are willing not only to dream but also to take responsibility for translating vision into meaningful action.

One of the most anticipated moments of the event came with the remarks of the Chief Patron of the books, veteran journalist, media entrepreneur, and Chairman of Ovation Media Group, Dele Momodu.
Known for his eloquence and extensive experience in documenting success stories around the world, Chief Momodu applauded Dr. Olowoporoku for producing literary works that address some of life’s most pressing questions. He described both books as powerful tools for personal growth and success, emphasizing their relevance in a world increasingly in need of clarity, purpose, and direction.
He encouraged guests to not only purchase the books but also embrace the valuable lessons embedded within their pages, noting that true transformation begins when knowledge is translated into action.
The intellectual highlight of the gathering was the comprehensive review delivered by Dr. Peter Ogudoro, President of the Nigerian Teachers Community and the official reviewer of the books.

With scholarly insight, Dr. Ogudoro guided the audience through the central themes, philosophies, and practical lessons contained within both works. He described Lifewire as a treasure trove of wisdom designed to stimulate deep reflection and promote thoughtful living, while See it, Say it, Do it was praised as a practical roadmap for turning dreams into tangible achievements.
His detailed analysis reinforced the books’ significance as essential reading for students, professionals, entrepreneurs, leaders, and anyone seeking personal growth and self-mastery.
The excitement reached another crescendo during the launching segment, led by the Chief Launcher, respected banker and former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Segun Oloketuyi.
In his address, he applauded the author for investing years of experience, wisdom, and observation into works capable of shaping future generations. He urged individuals and organizations to support initiatives that promote literacy, leadership, and personal development, before making a generous launch donation.

The man of the moment and the distinguished author, Dr. Ayokunnu Olowoporoku, in his remarks, revealed that both publications emerged from years of observation, personal experiences, deep reflection, and an enduring desire to contribute meaningfully to human transformation.
Describing Lifewire: Philosophies for Daily Living, he explained that the book was written to challenge conventional thinking, stimulate self-awareness, and inspire wisdom-centred living.

According to him, the publication serves as a collection of profound reflections and practical philosophies designed to enrich the human spirit, sharpen the mind, and guide readers toward more purposeful and meaningful living.
Turning to his second book, See it, Say it, Do it: A Three-Step Guide to Achieving Success, the author explained that it was inspired by the persistent gap he observed between ambition and execution.
He noted that many individuals possess remarkable dreams and aspirations yet remain trapped between intention and action. The book therefore presents a simple but powerful framework built on three foundational principles: vision, declaration, and action.

In his words, true success begins when individuals can first see possibilities, confidently declare their intentions, and courageously take the necessary steps to transform aspirations into reality.
Dr. Olowoporoku described both books as instruments of transformation written not merely for reading but for awakening minds, inspiring confidence, provoking positive change, and empowering readers to become the very best versions of themselves.
As the formal proceedings concluded, guests continued networking and exchanging ideas in an atmosphere of warmth and celebration.
The hospitality aspect of the event reflected the same level of excellence that characterized the entire occasion. Guests were treated to an exquisite selection of refreshments courtesy of Lahottie Drinks and Cuisine Fantastique, while the elegant event styling and décor executed by Abby Design Events added sophistication, colour, and visual splendour to the memorable gathering.

The Glamour, Thrills and Razzmatazz of the Glo-Sponsored 2026 Ojude Oba Festival

By Eric Elezuo
As it has always been, the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival, an annual fiesta of the Ijebu people, which has like wildfire, engulfed the entire Yorubaland and beyond, lived upto its billing, recreating colourful scenarios, cultural impetus and superhuman displays. All the hallmark of the renowned cultural retreat that has continually left a sweet taste in the mouths of both organizers and participants were brought to the fore, and participants were the better for it.
The 2026 Festival did not in any way fall short in spite of the absence of a monarch, following the passing of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, CFR, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

All odds notwithstanding, the ancient town of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, came alive as thousands of culture enthusiasts, tourists, political dignitaries, entertainment buffs, traditionalists and the general public converged for the event, which has epochal as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural gatherings. The events took place at Festival Pavilion opposite the royal palace in Ijebu Ode.
This year’s edition carried even deeper emotional significance as it was the first Ojude Oba festival since the passing of the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

As always, and in the last 21 years, telecommunications giant, Globacom, stepped out in full regalia as the official sponsor of the event.
Prior to the event, Glo had, in a statement, eulogized the life and times of the late paramount, who the company holds in high esteem, noting that the 2026 event is particularly in his honour.
Globacom unequivocally posited that Oba Adetona’s unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting Ijebu culture, traditions, and values was a major factor behind the company’s continued support for the festival.

According to the company, “This year’s celebration goes beyond our traditional role as sponsor over the past two decades. It is an opportunity to honour the exceptional legacy of the revered monarch, Oba Adetona, whose vision and commitment elevated Ojude Oba to its present status.”

Globacom recalled that the late Awujale played a pivotal role in transforming the festival into a unifying platform that brought together Ijebu sons and daughters from across the world, regardless of religious affiliation.
“This inclusive vision and royal leadership inspired the company to begin sponsoring the festival 21 years ago. Over the years of Globacom’s sponsorship, Ojude Oba has evolved into a globally recognized cultural celebration, attracting thousands of visitors and dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria,” the company noted.
While reaffirming its commitment to sustaining its support for the festival as part of its broader objective of showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage to the world, Glo recalled that that Oba Adetona ascended the throne of the Awujale on April 2, 1960, 65 years before his demise in July, 2025.

With beautiful display of culture, horse-riding and rich cultural pageantry, socialite and businessman Farooq Oreagba, once again confirmed his reputation as Mr Steeze, after he stole the spotlight during the 2024 festival.
Oreagba, whose stylish appearance at previous editions transformed him into a social media sensation, made a dramatic entrance on horseback, drawing cheers and admiration from festivalgoers.
Dressed in a flowing white agbada and a distinctive purple cap, Oreagba maintained his now-famous cultural style, complete with a cigarette in hand as he rode majestically through the festival grounds. His appearance quickly dominated conversations online, with videos and photographs spreading across social media platforms within minutes.
The businessman, who has become an unofficial ambassador of modern Ojude Oba fashion, once again demonstrated how tradition, style and social media influence can combine to create a cultural phenomenon.

The festival also attracted an array of high-profile dignitaries, including Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The arrival of Gov Abiodun, as well as Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, generated excitement among adults and younger attendees, many of whom cheered and surged forward to catch a glimpse of the bigwigs as he made their way into the venue.
Also present was Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ogun State, who arrived with his supporters and acknowledged the enthusiastic crowd.
As the celebration gathered momentum, various Regberegbe (age-grade groups) dazzled spectators with colourful processions in coordinated aso-oke, lace fabrics and elaborately designed traditional attire.

The parades, regarded as one of the festival’s major attractions, showcased the unity, prestige and enduring family heritage of the Ijebu people.
The famous Balogun horse-riding families also thrilled attendees with spectacular equestrian displays symbolising courage, martial history, wealth and social status.
Throughout the venue, the sounds of talking drums, traditional music and cultural performances echoed as guests danced, mingled and celebrated the enduring legacy of Ijebuland.
Videos and photographs from the event captured a sea of flowing agbadas, colourful gele headpieces, ornate beads and richly embroidered garments, highlighting why Ojude Oba remains one of Africa’s most visually captivating cultural festivals.

The annual celebration, held in honour of the Awujale of Ijebuland, has evolved from a gathering of Muslim converts paying homage to the monarch into a globally recognised cultural and tourism event that attracts visitors from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
Despite the ongoing royal transition, organisers had insisted that the festival would proceed in honour of the late monarch’s enduring legacy and his lifelong commitment to preserving and promoting Ijebu culture.
The 2026 edition of the Ojude Oba Festival is not only a celebration of tradition and identity but also a germane tribute to a monarch whose influence helped elevate Ojude Oba into an international cultural brand.

Glo-Sponsored watering prizes were presented to winning families. While Balogun Shoye family was the third runnerup with N500k cash prize, Balogun Onitirin Akile Family was the second runner up winning cash prize of N500k. The 1st runnerup position went to the Balogun Kuku family, who was rewarded with a cash prize of N750k and a trophy.
Other mouthwatering prizes from the stable of the communications giant were made available to teeming participants of the festival.
Glo has maintained that its sponsorship of the Ojude Oba Festival is not ending any time soon.
