Constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Prof Mike Ozekhome SAN, has petitioned the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) over its planned demolition of the Trademore Estate, Lugbe in the Abuja metropolis, dubunking Insinuations made by the Director of Administration’s Development Control Unit, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, that the estate has no development plan approval. He added that the decision if carried out will heighten the sufferings of the residents of the estate, and unleash undeserving punishment on a company that has not in anyway contravene any known law of the land.
Ozekhome, in the letter, addressed to the Permanent Secretary of FCTA, with the title Re: Your Proposed Demolition of Houses in Trademore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, FCT: Debunking the Insinuations by the Director of Development Control Unit Stating that Trademore Estate Has No Development Plan Approval, and dated July 6, 2023, informed that the owners of the estate, Trademore Industrial Holdings Limited, is an experienced estate developer with over two decades of cognate knowledge in the field, and will not start developing a site without proper allocation and authorization.
Noting that the company has built over 700 houses on the estate, and the site duly allocated, Ozekhome refer to a letter written by the office of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), and dated March 23, 2010, where the approval was acknowledged.
He however, also informed that whatever flooding being experienced in the estate has no direct omission or commission of the company, but blamed it on certain inadequacies of the government including unworkable dam and neighbouring construction activities.
