The leader of Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba cultural organization, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has said that the visit of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to the former leader of the group, Pa Fasoranti, is nothing but an attempt to divide the Afenifere.

Adebanjo said this while answering questions on Channels tv Politics Today bordering on his reactions to the purported endorsement of Fasoranti, on behalf of Afenifere on Tinubu I spite of the original stand of the Afenifere to support Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi

“That visit is just an attempt to divide the Afenifere. We have already taken a stand based on principle and equity. All those on that visit are just members of the APC. When was the last time any of time attended Afenifere meeting? I don’t really want to talk about these issues,” Adebanjo said.

The Afenifere leader confirmed that he warned Fasoranti against the visit, and asked him to receive Tinubu as a citizen if he must permit the visit.

While confirming that he did not consult Fasoranti before the group endorsed Obi, Adebanjo said he need not to since he was running the group, and he and his team has not been consulting him in other matters since he took over administration close to three years ago.

Recall that Afenifere had endorsed Peter Obi for president in 2023, saying that if Nigeria has to remain one, it is the turn of the southeast to produce the next president in the spirit of equity, and according to the organisation’s principle as enshrined by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
