One ceremony was not enough to tell the story of Ayowande Rebecca Ayodele and Ayodeji Rasheed Sanusi’s union. At Marcellina Event Centre, Ikeja, the couple moved from the solemnity of the white wedding into the colour and pageantry of a Yoruba traditional engagement before rounding off the celebration with a lively reception.
The celebrations brought together family members, friends, associates and well-wishers, who witnessed the different stages of the couple’s journey into matrimony. From the exchange of marital vows at the church service to the elaborate traditional engagement and the festivities that followed, each segment formed part of a carefully structured wedding programme.

The white wedding opened the day’s ceremonies, with the couple exchanging their marital vows in the presence of their families and invited guests. The service was officiated by Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Holy Trinity House, Lekki, who led the couple through the Christian rites of marriage.
Prayers, Scripture readings, exhortation and the exchange of vows formed part of the service, as Ayowande Rebecca and Ayodeji Rasheed formally declared their commitment to one another. The exchange of wedding rings followed, after which the couple received prayers and blessings for their marriage.

With the church ceremony concluded, the focus shifted to another important aspect of the wedding—the traditional engagement.
Across another section of the Marcellina Event Centre, Yoruba tradition took over, transforming the occasion into a colourful display of culture, family and ceremonial elegance. The traditional engagement brought together the families of the bride and groom for the formal rites that accompany a Yoruba marriage.
Taking the ceremony through its various stages was Tomisan, who anchored the traditional engagement and coordinated the proceedings as the families observed the Yoruba marriage customs.

The familiar pageantry of a Yoruba engagement was reflected in the introductions, greetings, family presentations and ceremonial exchanges. The groom’s family came prepared with the required engagement items, which were presented to the bride’s family as part of the formal request for her hand in marriage.
The bride and groom also took their place in the proceedings as the different stages of the ceremony unfolded. The presentation of the couple, the acknowledgement of the two families and the customary acceptance of the engagement items all contributed to the cultural significance of the occasion.
The richness of Yoruba culture was further reflected in the traditional ensembles worn by members of the families and guests. The vibrant colours, elaborate fabrics and carefully styled appearances added a regal touch to the proceedings, creating the kind of visual spectacle synonymous with grand Yoruba celebrations.

The colourful cultural proceedings eventually made way for the reception, where the formalities of the wedding gave way to dining, entertainment and celebration.
The newlyweds were welcomed into the reception amid applause and celebration, taking their places as family members, friends and associates gathered around them. Tee-A, the accomplished comedian and master of ceremonies, handled the reception proceedings, bringing his familiar presence and professional delivery to the occasion.

Goodwill messages, music, dining and dancing formed part of the reception programme, giving family members, friends and associates ample opportunity to celebrate with the newlyweds.
One of the much-anticipated moments was the cutting of the wedding cake. Elegantly presented for the occasion, the cake became another focal point as Ayowande Rebecca and Ayodeji Rasheed jointly performed the traditional cake-cutting ceremony.
Then came the hospitality.
Guests were treated to an assortment of meals and refreshments prepared for the occasion.

Music supplied the rhythm for the festivities, with Divine Music providing entertainment throughout the reception. The sound of music soon drew guests to the dance floor, where they celebrated the couple through energetic dance steps and lively interactions.
Behind the seamless coordination of the celebration was FTKKonnect Event, the event planning team entrusted with bringing the couple’s vision to life. From the arrangement of the various stages of the celebration to the smooth transition between the white wedding, traditional engagement and reception, the planning reflected careful attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of creating an unforgettable experience.
