Emefiele Released by DSS, Rearrested by EFCC – Report

Date:

It has been reported that former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, was on Thursday night released from custody by the Department of State Services (DSS).

However, Emefiele’s release, according to SaharaReporters, was short-lived as he was promptly rearrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) led by Ola Olukoyede.

Emefiele had been in DSS custody since June 9, when he was arrested, same day he was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu.

“Emefiele regained his freedom last night but he was immediately picked up by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” a top security source told SaharaReporters on Thursday.

It was learnt that the Presidency directed the EFCC to take over the case.

His counterpart at the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was arrested on June 14, was released Wednesday night after about 134 days in detention.
