NDLEA Intercepts Europe-bound Undergraduate, Lagos Lawyer with Drugs

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 19-year-old student, Benjamin Daberechi, for attempting to export 7.2 kg of methamphetamine concealed in crayfish to Europe where he was going for studies.

Daberechi was said to have been arrested on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja during an outward clearance of passengers on Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624.

According to a statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect had during an interview with the operatives claimed he was heading to Cyprus for studies, adding that a white substance found in his luggage tested positive for Methamphetamine.

The statement read, “Operatives of the NDLEA, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja arrested a 19-year-old student, Benjamin Daberechi, for attempting to export 7.2Kg of methamphetamine concealed in crayfish to Europe where he was going for undergraduate studies.

“While being interviewed by operatives, Daberechi claimed he was a student on his way to Cyprus for studies, but upon a thorough search of his luggage, he was found in possession of 7.2kg of whitish substance neatly concealed inside a sack of crayfish.

“A field test of the substance however proved positive to Methamphetamine.”

Babafemi also said a female lawyer identified as Ebikpolade Helen was arrested after operatives had recovered 5kg of cannabis and 12 bottles of skuchies in her Lekki apartment.

He said, “Meanwhile, a Lekki Lagos-based female lawyer, Ebikpolade Helen, who specialises in the production and distribution of skuchies, a mixture of cannabis, opioids, and black currant has been arrested in a follow-up operation in Awka, Anambra State following an earlier seizure of 5kg cannabis and 12 bottles of prepared skuchies in her apartment at Lekki.”

Babafemi added that the operatives intercepted a 116.5kg consignment of Colorado hidden in motor spare parts.

He said, “In the same vein, operatives of the Tincan Port Command of the Agency on Tuesday, July 11, intercepted 116.5kg consignment of Colorado, a strong strain of cannabis concealed in bags hidden in a heap of used vehicles parts on the floor of a container marked FCIU 8459700, bearing three units of used vehicles imported from Toronto, Canada.

“Based on intelligence, the agency had requested a 100% examination of the container which arrived at the TICT terminal of the port on June 14. A joint examination with the Nigeria Customs Service, Department of State Services, and other stakeholders on Tuesday, July 11, however, led to the discovery of 233 parcels of the illicit substance stashed inside travelling bags on the floor of the container, covered with used vehicle spare parts.”

Babafemi noted that attempts to export various quantities of illicit substances through courier companies were equally thwarted by NDLEA operatives of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations in Lagos.

He added that 336 grams of skunk stuffed inside computer hard drives going to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, were seized at a courier firm.

Supreme Court Sets October 5 to Hear All Appeals on Nnamdi Kanu – Counsel

The Lead Counsel of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Sir ifeanyi Ejiofor, has announced that the Supreme Court is set to hear all appeals on the IPOB peader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

Ejiofor made the disclosure in a statement he personal signed and titled “UPDATE ON THE HEARING OF APPEALS ON ONYENDU MAZI NNAMDI KANU’S CASE BEFORE THE SUPREME COURT OF NIGERIA.”

The full statement reads:

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has slated for HEARING all Appeals on Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case before the Apex Court on Thursday, 5TH OCTOBER, 2023.

Recall that on the 13th day of October 2022, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division, delivered a Landmark Judgment in an appeal filed by Prof Mike Ozekhome, SAN,CON, OFR, Ph.D, on behalf of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, challenging part of the Federal High Court ruling, which had retained 7 counts out of the original 15 counts against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, after striking out eight out of the 15 count charge.

The learned Justices of the Court of Appeal, in allowing the appeal filed by our erudite Lead Counsel-Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN, directed the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally.The intermediate court in the Landmark decision, proceeded in the aforesaid judgement to prohibit the Federal Government of Nigeria from further detaining Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, or prosecuting him on any indictment or charge before any court in Nigeria.

On the 5th day of October, 2023, Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN, leading Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor Esq., and others, will be exchanging the legal fireworks on behalf of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in urging the Supreme Court to dismiss in its entirety the frivolous appeal filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria against this landmark judgement of the Court of Appeal; and to further set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal staying the execution of its earlier judgment.

We are very firm, and committed to our solemn belief that the wheels of justice,though grinds slowly, but grinds exceedingly fine and towards the attainment of justice at the end of the day.

Adeleke Cancels Independence Day Celebration in Osun

Mohbad: Sam Larry Now in Our Custody, Police Confirm

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, over an ongoing investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of the singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development to The Punch in a late Thursday night telephone interview.

“Yes, Balogun Eletu aka Sam Larry is now in our custody. He is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation,” Hundeyin said.

The police had earlier invited Sam Larry and singer, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, for questioning over Mohbad’s demise.

The police, last week, also confirmed that pathologists had concluded the autopsy conducted on Mohbad, while they await the result.

He said, “Autopsy has been concluded. Awaiting results.” This development followed the exhumation of Mohbad by a combined team of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials.

The police had also arrested the nurse who reportedly injected the deceased singer before his demise on Tuesday, September 12.
