“Fulani Herdsmen Received N5m To Release Me”- OAU Professor

Date:

Orthopaedic surgeon at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Olayinka Adegbehingbe, has said that the sum of N5.045 million was paid to secure his release.

Adegbehingbe was kidnapped on Sunday on Ife-Ibadan expressway while returning from Lagos. He was released on Monday.

The OAU professor told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday at his residence on the university campus that his abductors were paid N5.045 million after initially demanding for N30 million.

“The people who abducted me were Fulani herdsmen and they had four guns and multiple rounds of ammunition as well as different dangerous weapons,” he said.

He condemned rising insecurity in the country and asked the Federal Government to rise to the occasion.

“The Federal Government needs to invest more in security. We need to know the identity of people coming in and going out of the town, state and the country at large.

“I also thank the security operatives, the entire OAU and OAUTHC communities, our families, church members and all other well-wishers for their prayers and other support rendered,’’ the professor said.

President of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Osun, Prof. Oluwole Komolafe, said he was grateful to God for the release of Adegbehingb
