As the tenure of the ever controversial Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, comes to an abrupt end today as he attains the retirement age of 60, the Federal Government has finally succumbed to pressures from the opposition parties and the general public to name his replacement. He is AIG Abubakar Mohammed Adamu Lafia.
Until his appointment late January 14, 2019, the Nasarawa born cop was a directing staff member at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.
His appointment came after many Nigerians kicked the against an alleged move by President Buhari to extend the tenure of the outgoing IGP, basing their allegations on the notion that there are plans to use Idris to influence the presidential election in February.
Popularly known within the police circles as Adamu Mohammed Lafia, in reference to his Nasarawa place of birth, the newly appointed AIG was born on November 9, 1961. He joined the Police Force in 1986 armed with a Bachelors degree in Geography.
