Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his commitment to bring governance to the doorsteps of Lagos residents if elected as Governor of the State in the 2019 general election.

Sanwo-Olu, who addressed over 3,000 artisans, traditional rulers and community leaders at a town hall meeting held at the Blue Roof within the premises of the Lagos Television said governance should be about the people and solving citizens’ problems.

The APC candidate, however, reminded the different groups that the meeting was not a campaign but an avenue for everyone to meet, greet and chart a path towards campaign activities.

“We have not started campaign. No, this meeting is not a campaign set up, it’s just for us to see ourselves, greet ourselves and to encourage ourselves. I am encouraged and impressed with what I have seen here today. And I want to tell you that good governance is coming right next to you.’ Sanwo-Olu said.

Making reference to the development plans he intends to execute if elected by the good people of Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said the downtrodden in the society and the poorest of the poor masses will feel the impact of government when he gets to power, stating that those are the groups at the centre of his development agenda.

“It’s time we gave governance back to the people. They are the real people whose lives should be touched in many great ways and this is what we are planning to do. We will bring governance to your doorsteps.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General of the Independent Campaign Group, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, told the artisans about numerous plans that the duo of Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat are bringing to the table adding that the candidates will expand the scope of development to every sector.

According to Ayinde, Sanwo-Olu is a candidate to beat in the forthcoming election, noting that despite the high level confidence that the ICG has on the candidacy of Mr. Sanwo-Olu, it is not taking anything for granted and the major reason the campaign group is doing everything to mobilise and sensitise Lagosians on the kind of choice they have before them in the February 2019 governorship poll in the State.

Also, the deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat inaugurated chairmen and secretaries of contact and mobilisation committees of all the 20 Local governments and 37 local council development authorities, whose task is to liaise with non-political individuals and groups to deliver more than 5 million votes for the APC.

Over 130 non-political groups, traditional groups and different organizations attended the town hall meeting where they pledged their support and loyalty to Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Each of the groups took turns to endorse the APC candidate with their leadership

Ghana’s former President John Dramani Mahama has staged a political comeback by winning the West African nation’s presidential election after his rival, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference from his residence, Bawumia said he had called Mahama to congratulate him, adding that Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) also won the parliamentary election.
“Let me say that the data from our own internal collation of the election results indicate that former President John Dramani Mahama has won the Presidential election decisively,” Bawumia said.
“The NDC has also won the parliamentary election. Even though we await final collation of a number of seats, I believe ultimately these will not change the outcome.”
Bawumia said he conceded before the official results to ease tensions.
Before his concession, scuffles had been reported in several local constituency centres where results were still arriving from polling stations.
“I am making this concession speech before the official announcement by the Electoral Commission to avoid further tension and preserve the peace of our country,” Bawumia said.
“It is important that the world investor community continues to believe in the peaceful and democratic character of Ghana,” he added. “The people have voted for change at this time, and we respect that decision with all humility.”
