A former commissioner in Lagos and ex aide to former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared that he is still in the race to wrest the governorship seat from incumbent governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sanwo-Olu made his position known in a press release as follows:
“My name is Jide Sanwo-Olu, I am 53 years old.
“As a PROPER Lagosian, I believe we can make our Lagos a better place where we can improve the lives of our people
“Our Government will be a Government that LISTENS, LISTENS and LISTENS.
“I will communicate properly when we will do a formal declaration, where my people will receive me officially.
“This man, Asiwaju, is a true bred democrat, he wants democracy to work, he would allow this primaries to go on peacefully through direct primaries.
“Saying AsiwajuTinubu will call me to back down will not happen, he is a Democrat, he wants democracy to work, he is our Leader, he is the National Leader, he believes in democracy.
“I will run an inclusive Government, we will ensure that we have a participatory Government, we will always listen to our people.
“I will not be a Governor of Lagos Island or a Governor of Lagos Central, Lagos East, I will be a Governor for all.. The whole State will be my Constituency.
“Our Government will be a Government that listens more and talks less, our Govt will run an open-door policy.
“Our Official Declaration will be Sunday 16th September, Police College Compound, Ikeja, Time 12:00pm.”
A loyalist of Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu’s entry into the governorship race, raised a lot of dust, prompting the Lagos public to believe that Tinubu has dumped Ambode for him.
