Nine Die, 54 Vehicles Burnt as Petrol Tanker Explodes in Lagos

At least nine persons including eight adults and one minor has been confirmed dead as a tanker loaded with 33, 000 litres of petrol fell, spilled its content and exploded on the Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, Lagos.

According to a statement released by the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, four other persons sustained various degrees of injury while a total of 54 cars were also burnt down in the ensuing inferno.

The General manager, who revealed that the accident happened at 5:23pm, noted that efforts by various agencies are ongoing at the time of filing this report to evacuate the burnt vehicles from the road.

Teams that reported for rescue operation include LASEMA Response team, men of the Lagos State Fire Service, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps, LASTMA, Nigeria Police Force (Alausa and Isheri Division), LASAMBUS among others.
