Sen Abaribe Proposes Dec 31 As Democracy Destruction Day

One of the vocal speakers of the National Assembly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial district, has proposed that December 31 be observed as ‘Democracy Destruction Day’.

“Since we are now moving in the right direction, I will also propose that December 31 be designated as Democracy Destruction Day because that was day this same president did a coup and removed the…,” Abaribe said.

Abaribe, while acknowledging the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led executive to declare June 12 as the new democracy day during plenary on Thursday when he made his proposition.

The proposition however, elicited reaction of laughter in the House.
