One of the foremost clubs in Lagos State, the Ikoyi Club, is set to celebrate its 86th year of existence.
The Club, in a message to The Boss, and signed by the Club’s Vice Chairman, Rufai Ladipo, who is also the Chairman, Anniversary Organising Committee, noted that the activities marking the Anniversary, will commence on September 24 with a press conference at the Club’s Rotunda, which will be followed by Jazz night at the bar.
The activities continue on Wednesday, September 25 when dignitaries will gather for an intellectual discourse as the Anniversary Symposium tagged, Ikoyi Club 1938: Repositioning for the Modern Age, holds at the Main Lawn with the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, as the keynote speaker.
The Anniversary Symposium will also feature a panel session with vibrant professionals including Dr. Nneka Okekearu, Coach Adenrele Onikosi, Dr. Stanley Muoneke and Mrs. Yvonne Ebbi as participants. The session will be moderated by Anikeade Funke Treasure.
The day will be rounded off with The Millennial Hangout at Golf Banquet Hall.
Other events to mark the Anniversary are Staff Engagement to be held on Thursday while the next day, Friday, will host Elders Party and Ladies Night at 11am and 6pm respectively.
The Club also dedicated a day (Saturday) for the kids with a book reading and children’s party. These will come after a Health Walk in the morning of Saturday.
The grand finale comes up on Sunday, September 29 with a Gala Nite at the Club’s Lawn.
The Ikoyi Club 1938 was established on September 29, 1938, when it officially came into being through the merger of the European Club and Lagos Golf Club. The Incorporation was entrusted to three nominated trustees namely, Sir Donald Kingdom, Henry Stewart and David Duncan Gibb
It was originally converted from a prison to a rest house, and occupies approximately 456 acres of land.
In 86 years, the Club has engaged in various and notable social responsibility activities that have impacted on the lives of both members and the community.
