Barely one week after the death of Hon Olaide Adewale Akinremi, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), another member of the House of Representatives is dead. He is Ekene Abubakar Adams, who represented Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency of Kaduna on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
He died on Tuesday morning at the age of 39.
Until his passing, he was the chairman of the house committee on sports.
He was the general manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars at different times, before winning the house of representatives seat in the 2023 general election.
In a statement, Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the house, said the lawmaker was a “dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and kind philanthropist”.
He said Adams was a “kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him”, adding that his dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was “unwavering” and that his contributions to the house will be deeply missed.
Adams becomes the third member of the lower chamber to die in 2024. The first was Isa Dogonyaro, who represented Babura/Garki federal constituency of Jigawa state.
