“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder” were the famous prophecy of Prophet Isaiah in old biblical times. This was a time when the children of Israe were been governed by the Roman emperor. Israel was under a heavy yoke and they needed a saviour who will rescue them from the new bondage they found themselves after their escape from Egypt.
Indeed, a child was born and He didn’t just rescue Israel but rescued the entire world and today we can share from this bright light the world enjoys. Whilst historian have not been able to figure out the exact date of His birthday, 25 December has been globally accepted as a universal date to celebrate the birth of the Messiah.
There is no doubt that the Yoruba people of Nigeria and other ethnic nationality trapped within Nigeria are desperate for a messiah. Not one who will take the burden of the government of Nigeria, but one that will help dissolve the country so that its people can be free.
Some people may have contrary opinion which is fine, I wrote last year that whilst many people are bitter about Buhari; when he leaves power, people will actually feel that his government was better than his successor.
It is not because Buhari’s government was any good, it is just the way the Nigeria system has been designed to retrogressed. With each successive government blaming their predecessor for the predicament that Nigerians finds themselves. They take time to build a little wealth for the country when they are in office, and eventually loot everything again before they leave office.
This is the circle that has bewitched Nigeria since independence and no miracle can change it, so praying or hoping for a better Nigeria is just an exercise in futility. There is therefore the question of why do we allow ourselves to be put through this misery again and again. Is our Messiah born yet or we should still await his birth?
Will the Yoruba messiah rescue us from the shackles of the Nigerian government, will s/he make life better for our people within Nigeria? Your guess is as good as mine, the question is who will answer the so many questions to the many predicaments we face in Nigeria.
Many Yoruba people have normalised our situation to believe that we are Nigerians. The truth is if we understand the true meaning of Nigeria, it is everything we would want to dissociate ourselves from. Either by rejecting the way it was formed or the way it was named, none of it leaves any good story that we can pass on to future generations.
If that is the case, why are we hell bent on preserving that which brings nothing but misery and pain upon us and our children. Why do many of us look for the easy way out by running out of the country for safety when our homeland should be our place of refuge?
The time is now for us Yoruba to be decisive with our destiny and destination. We must realise that there is no future in Nigeria and the continuous delay on our exit will only bring misery and pain to the majority of our people.
I do not know why many of our people are hellbent on preserving this symbol of slavery and bondage left by the British called Nigeria. The destiny of the Nigeria people doesn’t lie in their own hands. We are been deceived that we have democracy, but democracy does not equate to development as our people’s vote do not count and means less at the ballot boxes.
Therefore, let us in all seriousness realise that our destination is the Yoruba nation where everyone will be equal and we can each understand our language without outside interference. We need to reflect on this season of Christmas and know that not only has a son been born but many sons and daughters have been born who can help redeem the Yoruba nation.
All we need do is to identify them, support them and hopefully sooner rather than later, we shall witness the salvation of our people from this bondage called Nigeria. That is the surest gift we can hand over to our children and those that will come after them.
