The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State chapter has served a note of warning to those responsible for the attack on the home of former senator representing Rivers East in the upper chamber, who also doubles as the chairman, Atiku presidential campaign council in Rivers State, saying that no one has monopoly of violence.
The party made this know in a press statement signed by the Director, State Campaign Management Committee, Alabo Sir Dr. Abiye Sekibo, where it sued for peace, calling on detractors to respect the signed peace accord as well as heed the warnings of the National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno against violent electioneering and attacks on rivals.
While acknowledging that the perpetrators of the attack were thugs sent by the chairman of Obio Akpor local government area, the statement reminded that the Nigerian constitution in section 40 made provisions for rights to peaceful association and assembly, and “no single individual, no matter his or her position can constrain the people from making their choices freely”.
The party therefore, called on all the securities to fish out the perpetrators and prevent them from turning Rivers State into another battlefield.
“We stand for peaceful election in Rivers State, and Nigeria at large. Let’s give peace a chance in Rivers State, please and wemust not resort to sepf help.
