High Commissioner to Ghana, Abikoye Felicitates with Victorious Super Falcons

Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Abikoye Saturday, hosted the victorious Super Falcons to a dinner as promised.

The senior female team defeated the Bayana Bayana of South Africa to lift the 11th Women African Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Accra, for the record ninth time.

Recall that on Thursday, Amb Abikoye had visited the team before training during which he charged them to do Nigeria proud and promised to host them to a dinner after the match.

An excited High Commissioner, told the players and officials that President Muhammadu Buhari was proud of them, thanking them for putting in their very best to retain the trophy.

Amb Abikoye, charged the team to face the task ahead with strong determination, saying the President expects them to also emerge victorious at the world stage next year.

Nigeria, South Africa and Cameroon will represent Africa at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France in 2019.

Speaking at the dinner, the chairperson of Women Football, Ms Aisha Falode, thanked the High Commissioner and his staff for their support and for mobilising the Nigerian community in Ghana to cheer the girls to victory.

The dinner was attended by Wife of the High Commissioner, HE Kikelomo Abikoye, a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon Ayo Omidiran, NFF chairman of chairmen and key officials of the High Commission in Ghana.
