Gambian Referee for Nigeria/South Africa AFCON Clash

Date:

Gambian referee Bakary Papa Gassama will officiate Nigeria’s second-leg fixture against South Africa in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Johannesburg on November 17.

Gassama, 39, is rated the best referee in Africa and so far this year has handled four international matches.

The Gambian last officiated a match involving Nigeria in the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship final.

Gassama sent off Peter Moses in the match as Nigeria crashed 4-0 to hosts Morocco at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.

Meanwhile, this 2019 AFCON qualifier is billed to hold at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg; the Eagles need a win over Bafana Bafana to secure qualification for the tournament in Cameroon.

Currently, Nigeria tops group E with nine points; a point more than second placed South Africa.
