The Therapy Edge, a non governmental organisation, established by Toby Abbey, recently held its first parent-child interactive session at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Rose of Sharon, Ikeja, Lagos with the theme Parent-Child Conflict and Management Conference 2017
The event, which drew participants from all walks of life including across religious faith, harped on the need for parents to understand the psychology of their children in upbringing.
Leading the team of reputable speakers was the Head of Department, Psychology Department, University of Lagos, Dr. Esther Foluke Adesola, who gave an indepth description of what bringing up children was all about, stressing that communication remains the major factor in creating positive child-parent relationship.
One of the guest speakers, Pastor Gabriel Mathew, in his speech, maintained however, that no matter how things tend to work out, it takes knowing God to make the best of family life.
“A home without God cannot go far no matter how wealthy it is,” he said.
In his remarks, the founder of the organisation, Mr. Abbey said that the programme is aimed at creating a suitable family system, adding that a good family system is the first step to making the nation great.
“Our aim is to create a good family system which begins with communication between the parent and the child. This will in turn create a habitable environment for everyone,” he said.
Mr. Abbey said he drew his inspiration from God, and the need to make a positive impact in the society, stressing that the first edition has been an eye opener to what needs to be done in subsequent editions which supposedly will be held every quarter.
He commended partners to Therapy Edge such First Bank Nigeria, Ovation Media Group, publishers of The Boss Newspapers among others while encouraging other corporate organisations to come on board and help re-create a suitable family environment in order to erase the ‘wickedness in the heart of man’.
He concluded by saying that the organisation will be holding a Conference in October titled ‘No Violence Conference’ while in December, the Share and Care Conference will be organised.
