The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered an embarrassing 2-0 defeat in the hands of South Africa’s national team in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The defeat saw Gernot Rohr’s unbeaten run come to an end.
The game, held at at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Akwa Ibom, was the first time that South Africa would defeat Nigeria in a competitive match.
In the first 45 minutes the Super Eagles dominated the game but didn’t create much chances. Iheaacho and Iwobi just didn’t find their rhythm were substituted in the second half.
But in the second half, South Africa stepped up their game. After scoring early to lead the Super Eagle, a confident South Africa knew they were on the verge of making history.
An amateurish Super Eagles came out to attack and severally South Africa missed good changes before they scored again in a counter attack. It was the end for the Super Eagles.
