Senate blocks move to summon DSS boss

The Senate, on Tuesday, rejected a motion to invite the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Lawan Daura, over the recent arrest of some allegedly corrupt judges.

A PDP Senator representing Gombe, Joshua Lidani had motioned that the Senate invited Mr. Daura to explain why his agency has launched a clampdown on the nation’s judges in such a manner it did.

He said that it is the constitutional responsibility of the National Judicial Council to see to the discipline of corrupt judges.

Although the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio supported the motion, the “nays” had it when the matter was thrown to a voice vote.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated two judges, Sidi Bage and Paul Jauro, as Supreme Court justices.

Bage and Jauro’s nomination were contained in a letter seeking the confirmation of their nomination which the President sent to the senate.
