The Rotary Club of Ikeja South, District 9110, has performed the investiture of Publisher of Yes Magazine, Azuh Arinze KSM as its 31st President.
In an elaborate ceremony held at the Niteshift Coliseum, Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja, members of the club, better known as Rotarians, family members and well-wishers from all walks of life turned out in bright colours to felicitate with a man many referred to as ‘a good man’.
Guests arrived early for the event and it began in due course with the procession of past president. This was after some unique activities of the club such as Call to Order, Rotary Grace, Object of Rotary and singing of Rotary Song.
Following these introductory activities, the Compere popular Comedienne, Mandy then took centre stage to steer proceedings.
She, it was, who introduced the Chairman of the occasion, APC National Legal Adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire and invited him to make his welcome remarks.
The Former Lagos State Commissioner of Environment stated that he was elated to be chairing an occasion where the focus is giving back to society and making impact. He also had kind words for Rotarian Azuh Arinze whom he described as hard-working and serious-minded young man that has excelled in his chosen profession of journalism.
Next on the line-up was the farewell speech of the outgoing president, Rotarian Adeniyi Otunuyi. In his speech, he praised the doggedness of the incoming president while explaining the achievements of his tenure. He rounded off his speech by presenting a special recognition award to Past President Julius Nwokoro for his contributions to the club in year 2016-17.
Then it was the moment everyone had been waiting for, Rotarian Azuh Arinze was invited centrestage and he was formally decorated as the new President when the baton was passed on to him. This exchange was greeted with immense cheers and applause from guests which included Chairman, Sports Radio 88.9 Brila Fm, Ogun State Commissioner of Information & Strategy, Otunba Dayo Adenye and famous musician, elegant stallion, Onyeka Onwenu.
In his remarks after receiving the insignia of office, Rtn Azu Arinze described the day as ‘special’ and appreciated members for the confidence reposed in him as the President of the club for the 2017/2018 season. He also promised that together, the team will make a difference.
He then played a short video which highlight his star project for the year: Equipping 5000 primary and secondary school students with School bags (Books, Maths set, water bottle etc). He urged all guests to support him by buying at least one bag and putting smiles on the faces of some of these.
The Pacesetter President performed his first official function of inducting the Board of Directors, who are going to serve with him during the one year stewardship. Thereafter, Rotarian Michael Effiong took charge of the fundraising segment of the programme and it was exciting and rewarding.
Among major highlights of the investiture were the raffle draw/ American auction, which was won by Prince Adeyemi Aseperi, and a special heartwarming lecture presented by the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria’s first and only sports Radio station, Brilla FM, Dr. Larry Izamoje.
The lecture, titled, Standing Out in a Saturated Market, captured the theme of making a difference. Dr. Izamoje went down memory lane on how he tried making a difference by establishing Sports Radio 88.9 Brilla FM, and how the brand has remained the only one in Nigeria, after many years.
Also the District Governor for District 9110, Rtn (Dr.) Adewale Ogunbadejo delivered a powerful speech where he encouraged the new President and went on to support him by buying some of the bags.
In addition, some distinguished Nigerians were presented with special awards. They included, the CEO of X3M Ideas, Mr. Steve Babaeko; Founder and General Overseer of God First Ministries International Inc., Bishop Isaac Idahosa; Veteran musical couple, Tunde and Wunmi Obe; Proprietor of Quincy Herbal, Dr. Quincy Ayodele; Businessman, Mr. Myke Ikoku; Experential Marketing guru, Mr. Kunle Onime and Businesswoman, Deaconess Bolanle Oginni.
Rotary Club of Ikeja South, District 9110, Lagos was chartered on March 6, 1986 while its first meeting was held on October 12, 1986 in the residence of Rtn Chike Morah with Segun Durojaiye as the first President.
With plenty to eat and drink, and good music provided by experienced DJ Walex, it was in deed a memorable and lively occasion.
