Protests in Edo as Obaseki takes lead

There is an ongoing protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Office in Benin, venue of the collation of results for Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The protesters, many of whom are from Esan West and Esan East local government areas, are protesting against the conduct of the election in their area.

They are asking INEC to stop the announcement of results from the area.

Also, some protesters from Oredo local government area protested and accused the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, of rigging the election on behalf of the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki.

So far, with results from 10 local government areas announced, the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, is in the lead, with the PDP’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu, closely behind. However most of the results from the PDP stronghold of Esan have been announced whereas most results from oshiomhole’s Edo North stronghold are still being expected.
