The Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has lauded the electronic voting system which was introduced by the soon to leave office administration of Mr. Augustine Alegeh. He also told the members that they have to showcase integrity at all times.

The voting system provides that every lawyer irrespective of his location anywhere in the world can cast his vote with just a click of a button vie the internet. This, according to the Bar, eliminates cheating, rigging and stress of traveling long distances to vote.

The Vice President made this remark while delivering a keynote address as the special guest honour at the inauguration of the 11 floors building of the Nigeria Bar Association, which he said built as a result of unity of purpose, comparing the effort to the biblical building of the Tower of Babel. He added that even ‘God himself recognises the power of unity’.

“I appreciate the electronic voting system introduced by Augustine Alegeh and his team, and it is possible it can adapted one,” he said, noting that the Abia State crisis where INEC obliged two individuals with certificates of return could be avoided.

while admonishing lawyers on the need to imbibe integrity, the Vice President said:

“I believe that our profession has a lot to offer our nation, especially in its most difficult times.

“The most important aspect of that is integrity; our profession must demonstrate that we are capable of teaching integrity in this land.”

In response, an elated Augustine Alegeh told the Boss exclusively that “I am happy, proud as a lawyer that the NBA now has it secretariat in the CBD of Abuja, a conducive place to work and serve the bar, and befitting of an association of this nature.”

He proudly declared that he was heading back to law practice while the Moumod Abubakar in-coming administration will keep the ball rolling, and ‘use the building to generate money to run the bar’. Mr. Alegeh added that he is available to serve the association in any advisory capacity whenever he is called upon.

On the electronic voting system, Alege said: “If the VP is talking about it, then there is nothing left for me to say. If they want (FG), they will contact the Bar, and all necessary things will be given. The Bar stands as a consultant in this matter. It is not about Alegeh, it is about the Bar.”
