The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the two days public holidays declared by the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying it is a ‘reckless’ and ‘irresponsible’ decision.
Speaking exclusively to the Boss, the Publicity Secretary of PDP, Lagos State branch, Dr. Adetokunboh Pearce, said the decision could only come from someone who do not have the interest of the public at heart. He added that the APC led administration’s decision is basically borne out of the fact that the party is really shaky and afraid of losing the forthcoming election.
“It is hard to imagine that someone would wake up on a Sunday and declare two days public holidays. Such decision is as reckless s it is irresponsible. The party is busy looking for any means to have an upper hand in this election, but unfortunately for them, it is the people’s will that will prevail,” he said.
It will be recalled that the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, had on Sunday, declared Monday, September 26 and Tuesday September 27, as public holidays in the state to prepare for the September 28 2016 Edo Governorship Election, which was earlier postponed owing to alleged security threat.
Dr. Pearce maintained that the declaration of the holidays was meant to destabilised the PDP and the good people of Edo State who actually need to be on the go to prepare for the elections, stressing the holidays which will possibly extend to three days because of the election day proper will see banks, schools, hospitals and public utilities closed for business.
He added that the APC government are careless of the revenue loss the government will suffer for grounding the state for three days.
“The truth is that the entire business machinery of Edo State will be shut down for two days plus the day of the election; the banks, schools, hospitals and petty businesses. This is going to be a serious revenue loss for the government, and the administration is not bothered. They are only concerned about destabilising the PDP and the good people of Edo,” he said.
