Police officers have blocked off the entrance to Samuel Ogbemudia stadium road by Akenzua junction, Edo state – venue of the governorship primary of the Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The primary election is scheduled to hold on Thursday but according to reports, the gates of the stadium have also been cordoned off by police squad vehicles.
Mathew Iduoriyekemwen and Johnson Agbonayinma are the two contenders for the controversial governorship ticket.
“I am not INEC. It is too early to find out if the primary will hold or not. You can call me back in the afternoon to find out.”
Also, Sam Olumekun, the resident electoral commissioner of Edo state said only the national headquarters of the electoral body could decide if the proposed election will hold or not.
The PDP, led by the Caretaker Committee chairman, Ahmed Makarfi had conducted a primary on June 20 which produced Osagie Ize-Iyamu as its candidate at the same stadium.
Ize-Iyamu defeated Solomon Edebiri and Iduoriyekemwen at the first primary.
Iduoriyekemwen subsequently joined the race in the Sheriff-led faction of the PDP after claiming the previous primary was faulty.
