The culture of Lagos was showcased at its best recently at the Shell Hall of the Muson Centre, venue of the Lagos at 50 Third Festival Colloquium. The event which featured the custodian of the Yoruba culture, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, exemplified the fact that ‘our culture speaks for us wherever we find ourselves’.

The capacity filled hall was entertained nonstop with the fascinating displays from various dance groups from Lagos State including Footprints of David from Bariga, Zangbeto masquerade from Ajido, the National Troop of Nigeriia which performed the Olokun Dance among many others.

The high point of the event was the arrival of Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in company of his elegant wife, Olori Wuraola Zainab Ogunwusi. The arrival created much pomp and pageantry as the combination of palace chiefs, escorts well wishers, jourtnalists and the general public gave it the fanfare suitable for the traditional custodian of the Yoruba culture.

In his message, on the theme:“Tourism potential in Yorubaland: Landmarks,Culture nd History” the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, said that there is need to promote our culture because in the end, our culture will promote us, while describing in vivid details the history of Yoruba land; how it came to limelight and the formation of Lagos (Eko).

The monarch’s message was succeeded by the premiere of a film produced by Fola Onifade and Bukky Wright titled Eko: Iwure Olofin (The Blessing of Olofin) which centred on the origin and foundation of Lagos. It is on record that the Ooni showed character by remaining at the event until the very end.

An event of such magnitude was not bereft of dignitaries as the likes of the Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, the Speaker, Lagos State Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, Famous cinematographer, Tunde Kilani, Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, Chika Balogun, Rasheed Gbadamosi, prominent artists, entertainers, industrialists among many others were present.
