Baring any unforseen development, Chief James Ibori is expected to be released anytime from this week from a London Prison where he has been serving a 13-year sentence.
Plans have reached feverish pitch by family and associates who are already getting ready for the release of the former Delta State Governor and one of Nigeria’s most influential politicians
Insiders revealed to The Boss that many of his associates had believed that Chief Obori was to return to Nigeria after his release over the weekend but their hopes were dashed. However, from all indications, his day of freedom is imminent.
A few weeks ago, Bhadresh Gohil, one of the lawyers of the former Delta State Governor who was sentenced to 7 years for his involvement in what the court said was the faudulent sale of V-Mobile shares belonging to Delta State Govermnet.and other deals, was awarded £20,000 by the Crown Prosecution Service in an out-of-court settlement case over the llegal extension of his prison term.
Also, Chief Ibori ‘s lawyers have now alleged that his Prosecutors and the Metropolitan Police officers involved in his trial hid evidence and used underhand tactics that were unethical. This alalegation introduced a new twiat to the Ibori saga.
The strength of this allegation came to fore on June 6, 2016 when there was supposed to be a confiscation hearing against the former governor. The judge said he would wait until the conclusion of the investigation of corruption, and misleading the court charges against the British Police and the Prosecutionin jailing the former Delta State Governor..
Chief Ibori was arrested by INTERPOL in Dubai, United Arab Emirates while on holday and after a few months of legal freworks, he was extradited to the UK.
While sentemcing Chief Ibori to 13 years in 2012, the Judge had stated that he would at a later date confiscate all the properties traced to him.and/or are proceeds of his crime but the recent corruption charge against the prosecution has excited his associates and they are all saying that is an indication that the charges were trumped up and that Chief Ibori, his wife, mistress, sister and lawyer who were all jailed over the same mattwr were indeed innocent and so, he would get a hero’s welcome.whenever he returns to Nigeria.
