The ancient city of Ife stood still recently as the body of Princess Comfort Ademonwo Ijiyode was committed to mother earth in what has been termed a befitting funeral. Mama Iyilode, who died on February 17, 2017, at the ripe age of 90, was the surviving child of the 44th Ooni of Ife, Ooni Orarigba (Adewole Elufisan Ogunwusi).
A true daughter of Ife land, an indispensable confidant, who did not take hard work, loyalty, truthfulness and perseverance with levity, Mama lived to affect not a few lives.
The three days long event commenced with the traditional wake keep service, where loved ones besieged her home with music and dancing, thanking God for her life well lived.
The next witnessed a superb church service at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Ayegbaju, Ile-Ife where notable dignitaries like Baba Oba, Prince Ropo Ogunwusi and his Olori, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Prince Adegboyega Ogunwusi, Senator Jude Omoworare, Dr. Philip Abiola, Commissioner for Sports and special Needs, Hon. Biyi Oduade, Barr. Olubisi Oladosu and many others registered noble presence.
Shortly after the church service, her remains were interred at her residence I Oranfe, Ile-Ife, before guests were treated to a special reception the premises of the Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital.
Tributes from friends and family showed that late Princess Comfort was indeed and epitome of motherly love.
The events came to glorious end on the third day with a thanksgiving service at the Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Oranfe, Ile-Ife.
Mama, as she was fondly called lived a good life, and will be greatly missed.
