George Weah emotional as he is sworn in Liberian President…All the Juicy details

A tear or two dropped from the corner of his eyes as former World Footballer of the Year, was at noon today sworn in President of the Republic of Liberia.

The historic swearing in cereumonies  witnessed by Presidents, Heads of states and an energetic crowd that filled the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex was conducted by His Honour Francis S. Korkpor Sr, Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia.

Immediately after, his Vice President, Senator Jewel Howard-Taylor also took her oath of office to the delight of all President with her daughter by her side.

The day’s proceedings began to take shape with the convening of a special Joint Session of the 54th Legislature for the sole purpose administering the oath of office to the President-elect  and Vice President -elect.

Then there was wonderful poetry rendition  by Master  Berger Degori, a student of Joy Learning Montessori who brought to fore the rags to riches story of George Weah.

The teenager then used the occasion to urged the incoming President to preach peace and positively impact the people with his policies.

After taking the oath, New President Wray was then decorated with a special Presidential medal and Sach, this was  when  probably the reality of his new position hit him and the  burly striker who terrorised many defenders and goal keepers shed some tears.

In his Inaugural Speech, President Wray thanked God for His victory and noted that he will fight corruption and make Liberia business friendly.

He noted that ‘Liberia is Ready for business” but added that Liberians will no longer play second fiddle in the business sphere.

He  promised to fight for the peace of the country and also ordered a one minute silence in honour of all those who had died for the country.

He promised to run an open-door government and told the Market women and the poor folks that their day of being in government has come at last!

Those who witnessed this momentous occasion included fellow former footballers Austin Jay Jay Okocha who drew vociferous cheers form the audience, Samuel Eto”o, Taribo West, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President Nana Akufo-Addo, President Faure Gnassingbe, President Alpha Conte, Senate President Bukola Saraki, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Abdulsalami Abubakar(Rtd), former President Rawlings,former President John Mahama, Captain Hosa Okunbo, Tunde Folawiyo, Kunle Coker,  Tunde Ayeni, Barr. Mike Igbinedion, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, John Dumelo and many others

Yesterday, there was a Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service that was also well attended by Liberians and foreign dignitaries.
