It was all tears, tribute and eulogy at the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victoria Island as the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; his Ogun State counterpart, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, led other dignitaries, friends, family members, well-wishers and colleagues to pay their last respects to the late Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mr. Adedeji Tinubu, who died on Thursday, January 25, 2018, during a novelty football game.
Deji, as he was popularly called was the former Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, where he shone like a million stars, before the Governor’s cabinet reshuffle which made a special adviser.
In his tribute as contained in the funeral service brochure signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello, the state government described Tinubu as a thoroughbred professional, who devoted time to the service of humanity.
“He was both a sportsman and sports lover. But he is unforgettable as a sports administrator. Those who followed him knew him as a symbol of service to humanity,” the tribute read.
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on his part, described the late SA as a man who had a passion for football and sports in general, adding that his death was an ‘act of God’.
He recognised that the 54 years Deji spent on earth were well spent, and worth being thankful to God while commiserating with Governor Ambode, the Lagos State Government and people of Lagos State in general.
“God’s ways are not our ways; when it happens like this, we have to thank Him,” Amosun said.
n her address, the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, urged the Tinubu family to seek comfort in God, because He alone can sustain them.
After the church service, Tinubu’s remains were conveyed in a motorcade to the Ikoyi Volt and Garden where he was committed to mother earth.
Other dignitaries at the funeral service were the CEO, Ovation Media Group, Chief Dele Momodu, wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun; former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi; former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, wife of Former Governor of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola; Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor, Chief Tolu Odebiyi; Senator Tokunboh Afikuyomi, former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Ike Shorounmu; Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House, Commissioner for Education, Lagos State, Hon. Olayinka Oladundoye, Senator Olorunimbe Momora, Secretary to Lagos State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello; Chief Demola Seriki, CEO of Oando, Mr. Wale Tinubu, Hon. Babajimi Benson among others.
Deji Tinubu is survived by a wife and two children, Tamilore and Moyosore.
