The former Managing Director of Diamond Bank and Enterprise Bank, Mr. Emeka Onwuka, has encouraged the Federal Government of Nigeria to set policies that will further push the cashless policy system of Nigeria to greater height for smooth running of businesses by organisations.
Mr. Emeka stated this while delivering a key note address at the launching of a book titled: “Dynamics of the Nigerian Financial System”, which was held July 27, 2016 at banquet hall, Oriental hotel, Lagos, and tagged “Essays in honour of Philips Oduoza”.
He buttress that Nigerians engaging in branch less banking will need more awareness for effective usage in enterprises. “As Nigeria is joining the league of nations operating branchless banking in a cashless society, you need to be educated so that you can be empowered to function effectively in this era of emerging cashless economy and total financial inclusion backed by the CBN.”
He added that the powerful interest which the policy has generated is hardly surprising, considering the enormous positive implications its uses will have on the lives of ordinary Nigerians and the business environment.
The book which contains 30 chapters has gained lots of contribution from scholars in the banking and finance sector in Nigeria and Abroad. It was edited by Professor of Strategic Studies and Business Diplomacy of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Micheal M. Ogbeidi; reviewed by Head of Department for Business Administration, UNILAG, Prof. Owolabi Kuye. The book is a relevant instrument in the Nigeria Economy, and is meant to educate members of the Financial sector.
The Author, Mr. Philips Oduoza, has been the Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc since 2010. He served as Deputy Managing Director at UBA Plc until August 1, 2010 and as Deputy Managing Director of UBA Nigeria-South, from 2005.
He was also the Executive Director of Retail Financial Services at United Bank for Africa Plc since 2005, and in honour of his retirement from the Banking Industry on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, the book was launched.
However, Mr. Philips has been described by Executive Directors and Bankers at the occasion, as the most privilege and special brand in the banking sector, economy of Nigeria, and especially to the Group of UBA generally.
