A Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday directed that a middle-aged man, Babangida Yusuf, be remanded in prison custody till October 13 when the case of kidnap and extortion levelled against him and two others would come up for mention.
The magistrate, AbdulKareem Umar, gave the directive after the court heard that the legal advice on the case was still being awaited from the state’s ministry of justice.
The police prosecutor, Hashimu Musa, told the court that Babangida, a.k.a. “Beti” of Kidanda village in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, along with Suleiman Abubakar and Usman Shagari (both of Yadi village) in the same LGA, but who are now at large, jointly kidnapped one Alhaji Saleh Buda of Janda village in the Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State on March 2.
The court was further told that the fourth member of the gang, Dahiru Yusuf, was lynched by members of the community at the place they were supposed to collect the ransom placed on Buda.
The court was told that Babangida and his gang had stormed Buda’s residence with sticks and cutlasses before they whisked him off to an unknown destination.
The gang, thereafter, reportedly demanded a ransom of N10m on Buda. They also left behind a telephone number 08128967501 which they said his (Buda’s) family should use to contact them whenever they were ready to pay the ransom.
