The ancient city of Ife recently stood still in honour of the Balogun of Ife, and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Balogun Olabisi Omidiora, as he was laid to rest in his Ile Ife, Osun State, residence, after over eight decades of meritorious existence.
As the crowd of well-wishers, family and friends gathered at his residence for the wake keep, it was obvious that the octogenarian had touched many lives in very many positive ways while he lived.
The soulful Christian Wake keep, held at his residence, Omi Villa opposite, Hilton Hotel, Parakin Layout, Ile Ife, was a monumental success as people from all walks of life, including the children of the deceased rendered eulogy after eulogy in his honour. It was really a night to remember.
The conclusion of the Christian Wake left no one in doubt of the glorious ceremony that awaited all and sundry the next day, which was characterized by a magnificent church service held at the St. Peters Church, Iremo, Ile Ife officiated by Rt. Revd. Olubunmi Akindele.
In his brief sermon, the officiating minister recounted the exemplary lifestyle of the deceased, and encouraged the congregation to emulate his virtues.
The interment took place at the church premises after a thanksgiving where the children of the deceased acknowledged the Almighty God for taking their father through life in such a splendid and enviable fashion.
Afterwards friends, family and associates converged on the Aquarium Hall, Ile Ife where a superb reception was held with assorted drinks and continental dishes to match the gaily dressed guests.
Among a crowd of notable dignitaries that graced the funeral ceremony were Rtd. General Alani Akinrinade, Prof. Olu Aina, Arch. Tokunbo Omisore, Prince Adedamola Aderemi and wife, Chief Alex Duduyemi, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and many others.
