The former Nigeria’s Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, has felicitated with a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba, as he clocks 80.
In a birthday message dated July 6, 2019 and signed by General Babangida himself, the ex-Military President acknowledged Osoba’s immense contribution to nation building, especially as an accomplished journalist with unmatched reportorial skills.
Babangida noted that it is a thing of joy to hit the octogenarian age at a time when life expectancy in Nigeria is put at 54.
Among the qualities Babangida recognized in Osaba include the fact that he is a detribalised Nigerian, suave, urbane, cerebral, seasoned and profoundly accomplished.
“Chief Segun Osoba remains one of Nigeria’s detribalised and essentially cosmopolitan octogenarians, suave, urbane, cerebral, seasoned and profoundly accomplished journalist who cut his professional teeth at a time when technology was still a huge challenge,” Babangida wrote.
While wishing Osoba the best at 80 on behalf of his children, Aisha, Mohammed, Aminu and Halima, he noted that “you sun has just begun to shine. You remain to me as one of the most patriotic Nigerians I have come across in my sojourn in life”.
The former governor and veteran journalist was born on July 15, 1939.
