The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Yakubu Mahmood, has said that the fact that it takes five to six days to reconfigure smart card readers happen to be the major reason the electoral body has to move the election to Saturday February 23, 2019.

The INEC Chairman, who spoke before presidential candidates, party chairmen, international and local observers as well as pressmen, said that the postponement would have been one or two days but professional advice from the IT department suggested that it takes quite a long time to reconfigure smart card readers, and so the week long duration.

The chairman also took responsibility for the cancellation of the election absorbing security situation and political party pressure.
