When the identity of the administrator of Instablog9ja was revealed via the Linda Ikeji Blog on November 15, widespread responses filled the internet from celebrities and the general public. These reactions from celebrities including Davido, Spesh, Yung6ix and so on, mostly attacking the new name, face and personality now attached to the controversial posts.
However, these attacks have been directed at the wrong individual, who was identified as, John Abayomi, the online editor for the Punch Newspaper. Since revealing the identity of alleged administrator, several repercussions have ensued, including John Abayomi being summoned by the editorial board of the Punch and inquisitions conducted to confirm the allegations. Linda Ikeji Blog posted a new article admitting to publishing the wrong name. In the updated post, the blog identified the actual administrator to be John Abayomi Aruleba and apologised to the online editor of the Punch newspapers, John Abayomi, for the mix-up and the consequences it has incurred.
With these updated information, there have been less reactions from the general public but Mr. John Abayomi who was falsely accused, has reached out to Linda Ikeji, as reported on Netng, through his lawyer, Femi Falana, claiming “Your publication has put him in the harm’s way, thereby endangering his life and the lives of his family members. It has also attracted a lot of negative reactions from members of the public including celebrities who have been eager to know the face behind the blunt and sarcastic blog because of the method of its reportage”. Abayomi and his lawyer demanded an apology and a retraction, which Linda Ikeji complied with within the 48hours period.
