In response to countless appeals on national radios, newspapers and television stations including the social media platforms for religious bodies to join in rescuing the youths from drug abuse, the 8th Bishop of Lagos, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) the Rt. Rev. Dr. Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye, has expressed commitment to address the challenge.
The Cleric made his position known when he received a notable Anti-Drug Abuse Crusader and Founder/President SILEC Initiatives, Sunny Irakpo, in his office at the Lagos Diocesan Headquarters, Marina, Lagos. He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the initiative, Mr. Tounayo David.
His Lordship commended Irakpo’s efforts, passion and zeal in the fight to rescue the nation from satanic moves and adverse effects of drug abuse on the lives of promising Nigerian youths.
He advised the youths to emulate the many good examples demonstrated by SILEC by embarking on good initiatives such as theirs, noting that the future of Nigeria lies greatly in the hands of the youths. He added that drug abuse is a crippling force that can put Nigeria in a state of backwardness and under-development.
In his response, Irakpo appreciated the Bishop on behalf of Nigerian youths for believing in their future and for his clear episcopal vision as well as demonstration of a efforts to rescue the youths from drug abuse and addiction. This he exhibited recently through a street show called AN OUTING WITH THE BISHOP: SAY NO TO DRUG ABUSE.
The Bishop also also revealed that the Church is already on the move to build a massive Centenary City in Lekki and expressed desire to work with SILEC in their quest to make the nation drug-free.
