Published

on

By Promise Oshewa

Rap music in Nigeria is about flow of lyrics on diverse situations including politics, personalities among others. It serves as the voice of the minority as a means of cry out to the leaders. The real value of rap music has changed from its major function to whatever the rapper wants. Nigeria has many rappers like Reminisce, MI, Olamide, Erigga, Chino Ekun and many others.

But over the years, the fans of Reminisce and MI have been locked in a battle of deciding who the better is. They have proffered copious musical insights to give their preferred rapper the upperhand.

Reminisce popularly known as “Alaga Ibile” is one of Nigerian major rappers who raps majorly in Yoruba and little English in his lines. He is also called “Baba Hafusa”. He got the name after the studio album he released in 2015; he is signed to Edge Records and he is the founder and creative director of LRR records. He is a core rapper using his lyrics to tell Nigerians about issues and personalities. He is one of the popular, successful and influential rappers in Nigeria. He was awarded the “Best Rap Album” on Headies Award Night against Fall, Erigga, Phyno, olamide, and AQ.

M.I Abaga (Jude Abaga), on the other hand, raps majorly in English unlike his counterpart Reminisce who raps in Yoruba. M.I or Mr. Incredible uses heavy punchlines in his lyrics addressing his fellow artiste’s issues and major issues in the music industry. He is known for his rap battle issue with Kelly Handsome and Iceberg Slim over personality issues. He has won many awards over the past year with rap music. Recently, he won 2 awards at the Headies with his song “You rappers should fix up your lives” For Lyricist on the roll and Best Rap Single 2018. He was ranked 4th rapper in Nigeria which he disputed and claimed not to be compared with any rapper in Nigeria. He is currently signed to Chocolate city.

Reminisce and M.I are two great rappers in the industry who have achieved fame and greatness over the years, each of them doing what they know us best. The two rappers are two different personalities, the former raps in Yoruba while the latter raps in English with heavy punchlines which are direct to those involved.

M.I Abaga has been receiving awards over the years while Reminisce has not received much awards. Reminisce video El Hadj video had 9,753 views while M.I video on You rappers should fix your lives had 191,569 views.

Well, you are now at liberty to decide who the better or successful rapper is.
